The number of individuals with brokerage accounts on the Moscow Exchange in August 2022 increased by 421 thousand people and reached 21.2 million. They account for 35.6 million accounts, the report says on website Moscow Exchange.
In August, transactions on the stock market were made by 2.1 million people. The share of private investors in the total trading volume in August amounted to 76.2%, in bond trading – 26%, on the spot currency market – 26.4%, on the derivatives market – 70.5%. The number of individual investment accounts in August increased by 49 thousand and amounted to 5.6 million. The turnover on such accounts since the beginning of 2022 amounted to 1.2 trillion rubles, with 88.6% accounted for transactions with shares, 4% – for transactions with bonds, 7.5% – with exchange-traded funds.
The most popular shares among private investors in August were Gazprom (33.9%), Sberbank (ordinary and preferred – 19.8% and 5.6%), Norilsk Nickel (9.5%), LUKOIL ( 8.9%), Yandex (5.3%), preferred shares of Surgutneftegaz (5.1%), shares of Rosneft (4.6%), MTS (3.7%) and NOVATEK (3 .7%).
The leading regions in terms of the number of opened individual accounts included: Moscow (621.5 thousand), Moscow region (347.5 thousand), St. Petersburg (270.6 thousand). The list includes Sverdlovsk Region (183.7 thousand accounts), Bashkortostan (175.9 thousand accounts) and Krasnodar Territory (168.4 thousand accounts).
Russian stock market last week showed growth 8.93%. Monthly trading volume on the Moscow Exchange increased by 7.3%. Only the futures market showed negative dynamics. It decreased by 23.44%.
