In a Russian school, the director banned the Internet: so that teachers do not sit in social networks

Teacher publics are always rich in all sorts of complaints. Here is another one: in one of the Ural schools, the Internet was turned off in the classrooms. There is nothing, they say, for teachers to be distracted by all sorts of social networks (and they were not distracted, where can they get time for this), but they should prepare for all sorts of presentations using the Web at home. It turned out that this was not an isolated case. “MK” understood this strange situation for modern education.

“At our school, the teachers in the classrooms were turned off the Internet by order of the director,” a teacher from the Urals shared his misfortune. – So that teachers do not sit in social networks and on prohibited sites during the lessons. Although none of the teachers was caught in this. To all the persuasion and requests of the team, the director answers “no”. When we tell her that we need the Internet for information and preparation for lessons, we hear in response: we need to prepare at home, and not in the classroom after class, dump everything on a USB flash drive and use it. By the way, she left the Internet in her office. The head teachers, secretary and accountant were also not injured. How to live with it now?

For the Moscow teachers with whom we spoke, this ban looks like utter nonsense. But metropolitan and regional schools, especially in the outback, are still significantly different.

“I can’t even imagine such a situation,” the teacher of Russian language and literature expressed her opinion to “MK”. – For Moscow teachers, all work with the EZhD (Electronic journal-diary) is connected. Homework, grading, KTP (thematic calendar planning)… How can a modern school work with the Internet turned off?

Colleagues from different regions advised the “complaintant” “not to do anything in the lessons that is related to working on the Web.” “Nobody has to work at home. In a month, this whim at the director will pass!” – says a teacher from the Krasnodar Territory.

We found out how things are with the Internet in other schools.

– When I worked in the outback, the school administrator did not close the network, but gave everyone only 100 megabytes of traffic! – shared his experience a teacher of mathematics.

– We have an antivirus in our school and blocks everything that is not related to study. The Internet is always needed in the classroom, extracurricular activities, class hours, – said a teacher from Miass (Chelyabinsk region). – You can’t download everything to a USB flash drive, but you can make tabs in the browser. That is, with regard to study and work, we open freely, and all sorts of social networks, TV shows, videos, tiktok, etc. locked down.

A teacher from St. Petersburg cannot even hypothetically imagine such a “madhouse”: “We had problems with the Internet for two days, and it was a disaster. How without it? An electronic magazine, Google drive, on which all the information (videos, presentations), mail, and so on.

Most of all, the teaching community was amazed – how to fill out an electronic journal without the Internet? And they suggested “requiring a separate amount every month for filling out an electronic journal at home.”

– That is, the state provided the Internet at school, within the framework of the “digitalization of education” project, so that participants in the educational process could use the Internet, but the director canceled this? Where is the network filter? At school, it should be mandatory, and it is he who prevents sitting on unnecessary sites. This, it turns out, is a return to the “origins” – a blackboard and chalk? – says a teacher from Krasnodar.

However, other teachers on the Web complain about the same problem: there is no Internet in the classrooms, and at the same time, it is necessary to set marks in the electronic journal until the end of the working day (until 16:00, since before 17:00 the report on the work with the EJ is sent to the education department ). “My sister got into such a situation,” said a resident of the Moscow region. – She talked about the Internet with the director, wrote a statement. But they don’t do anything. At the last meeting, they announced that the lack of Internet in the workplace is a teacher’s problem, and they recommended buying modems! And this is in addition to the fact that they were threatened not to pay the premium to those who do not completely fill out the EJ before 4 pm.

The lawyers we interviewed have only one piece of advice for teachers who have been harmed on the Internet: “You should not do work at home, in accordance with the Labor Code of the Russian Federation and your employment contract, the head-employer is obliged to provide you with conditions for the performance of your job duties.”

– Article 22 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation (“Basic rights and obligations of the employer”). The employer is obliged: to provide employees with equipment, technical documentation and other means necessary for the performance of their labor duties. No one has to do anything at home! Everything that the authorities require, we do at work. You are not paid money for working at home, no one pays you for electricity. Do not be afraid of the “kings”! We wrote a collective appeal to the prosecutor’s office, and everything will be decided in one day. By the way, it is useless to write to the education department, – said an expert on labor law.
