Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko at a meeting with Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin reportedthat in 2024 there will be 50 advanced engineering schools (AES) operating in 23 regions of Russia, 20 of which are yet to be opened. Next year, NSP plans to train 5,500 new engineers.

Such areas in the government include microelectronics, instrument making, artificial intelligence, nuclear energy, mechanical engineering and a number of other industries. The head of the Ministry of Education and Science Valery Falkov emphasizes that NSP is “the most important element of the system for the formation of technological sovereignty of Russia.”

Mr. Mishustin said that engineering schools “immediately proved their relevance,” so a second grant competition was held in September 2023, in which 73 Russian universities took part. “The most important thing is the training of highly qualified engineers. It is important that the popularity of the engineering profession is proven in practice by our students who will graduate from universities,” the head of government is confident.

Over two years, 12.6 billion rubles have been allocated from the federal budget to support NSPs; in 2024, the amount will be 16.5 billion rubles. Another about 4.3 billion rubles. attracted from extra-budgetary sources – from industrial partners of the program.

“More than 150 high-tech companies are involved in the work of schools. They not only finance NSP programs, but also participate in the educational process and aim to employ graduates. This creates a new quality in our engineering education. This synergy between universities and enterprises is also aimed at developments for the real sector of the economy,” added the Deputy Prime Minister.
