The head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Moscow, Oleg Baranov, said that in 2023, by decision of the Moscow courts, 42 thousand foreigners were expelled from Russia. According to him, the department of the ministry stopped 158 thousand violations of the rules of entry or stay in the country last year.

“The judicial authorities have made about 42 thousand decisions on the expulsion of foreign citizens and stateless persons from the Russian Federation. About 11.5 thousand foreigners were placed in the Temporary Detention Center for Foreign Citizens of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia,” said Oleg Baranov at a meeting in the Moscow City Duma (quoted from “Interfax”).

He added that over the past year, more than 2 million foreigners were registered in Moscow. In 2023, the police identified 224 thousand violations in the field of migration legislation.

After the terrorist attack in the Crocus City Hall near Moscow, the leaders of the State Duma factions recommended revising legal norms in the field of migration legislation. For this purpose, a special working group will be created in the lower house of parliament.
