Allergist-immunologist of the highest category, candidate of medical sciences Ella Churyukina in an interview with “Arguments and Acts” told about a rather rare phenomenon – allergies to cold.
Basically, cold allergies, according to Churyukina, affect women aged 18-25, mostly from cold regions.
This allergy, according to her, is not congenital, but occurs due to the intake of certain medications and with a decrease in immunity, as well as against the background of infectious diseases (viral hepatitis, HIV, syphilis, borreliosis, infectious mononucleosis, toxoplasmosis, and others).
It manifests itself most often in the form of urticaria, angioedema (rapidly developing local swelling of the mucous membranes and subcutaneous tissue) or bronchospasm. Sometimes such an allergy manifests itself in the form of a runny nose and conjunctivitis with abundant mucous discharge from the nose, lacrimation and itching of the eyelids.
Its manifestation can be dermatitis – the skin becomes dry, begins to peel and redden.
To minimize symptoms, an allergist-immunologist advises choosing clothes made from natural fabrics, be sure to wear hats, scarves, gloves or mittens.
In your diet, you should add fish, nuts, olive oil – foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids.
You can gradually harden your body.
And about half an hour before going outside, it’s good to drink a cup of hot tea.
In addition, you should avoid using body scrubs and alkaline soaps during the cold season, and avoid taking cold baths.
