I’m really influenced by a foreign book, it’s called the Gospel – Kommersant

Former protodeacon of the Russian Orthodox Church Andrei Kuraev believes that the Ministry of Justice turned on him to the register of foreign agents due to “interviews with the wrong journalists.” This is how he interpreted the ministry’s arguments.
“This is new in the history of Russian law. However, the most important reason is still not indicated. I am truly influenced by foreign books. It’s called the Gospel,” Mr. Kuraev wrote on Telegram.
The former protodeacon of the Russian Orthodox Church also noted that church representatives had previously denied that there was a request to be recognized as a foreign agent. Thus, the deputy manager of the affairs of the Moscow Patriarchate, vicar of the patriarch, Bishop of Pavlovo-Posad Silouan at the end of November said, that the management of the affairs of the Moscow Patriarchate does not deal with such “legal issues.” The head of the legal department of the Moscow Patriarchate, Abbess Ksenia, said that she knew nothing on this issue.
Patriarch Kirill approved the decision to defrock Protodeacon Andrei Kuraev in 2021; it did not come into force for two years due to the current moratorium. The Patriarch lifted this moratorium in the spring of 2023. In November Mr. Kuraev emigrated.
