Spartak forward Ilya Kovalchuk revealed what role he played in Bob Hartley becoming Avangard coach.

According to him, Alexander Krylov asked him to ask Bob how he would feel about working at Avangard. At that time, Bob was coaching the Latvian national team.

“Hartley asked me about the city and infrastructure. He answered that they love hockey very much – then Avangard was still planning to play in Omsk.
