On February 11, the Nizhny Novgorod Torpedo hockey players played their next match of the KHL regular championship for the 2023-2024 season. The team from Nizhny Novgorod hosted Nizhnekamsk Neftekhimik at their home arena and was supposed to defeat the representatives of the Eastern Conference, but everything did not go according to plan for Igor Larionov’s charges. Avtozavodtsy lost for most of the match and were only miraculously able to send the game into extra time, where luck was on the side of Neftekhimik, who won thanks to a goal from Kirill Urakov.
The hockey players from Nizhnekamsk did not show a spectacular game and showed the simplest hockey possible, but this was enough for victory. The guests skillfully outplayed Torpedo in the fight and defended competently so that the fast forwards from Nizhny Novgorod did not have free areas for individual actions and shooting. In this case, the first role was taken by the result, which will remain, and the gray game of Neftekhimik will be forgotten.
Head coach of HC Torpedo Igor Larionov criticized the game of Neftekhimik.
“With all due respect to the opponent and what they do. This hockey is utopian, which kills entertainment. Of course, you can say that there are no players, no masters, and so on. But this is all an excuse,” said Igor Larionov.
