A mission from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is on its way to the Russian-controlled Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, agency director Rafael Grossi said on the morning of August 29. A delegation of 13 people is expected to stay there until 3 September. But a group of agency specialists may remain at the ZNPP to monitor the situation in the future, said Russia’s permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov.
Russia is interested in this visit, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on August 29. According to him, Moscow is waiting for the mission’s assistance in ensuring the security of the ZNPP territory and its environs at the proper level. “Military tensions can be reduced by pressure on the Ukrainian side so that it stops shelling this and adjacent territory,” Peskov said.
