Russian and Chinese navies will hold joint exercises in the Sea of ​​Japan

The Russian Navy and the Chinese Navy will work out cooperation in the northern and central parts of the Sea of ​​Japan as part of the Vostok-2022 exercises, said Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin.

“Pacific Fleet [РФ] jointly with the Navy of the People’s Liberation Army of China, it is working out interaction in the northern and central parts of the Sea of ​​Japan in the Far East maritime zone in order to assist the ground forces in the Primorsky direction, as well as the defense of maritime communications and areas of maritime economic activity, ”- quotes his TASS.

Large-scale command and staff exercises “Vostok-2022” will be held in Russia from 1 to 7 September. During the exercises, issues of using groupings of troops to ensure military security in the Eastern Region will be worked out, the Russian Defense Ministry noted. The training grounds of the Eastern Military District “Bidzhansky”, “Burduny”, “Anna Bay” and others, as well as the waters and coastal areas of the Sea of ​​Okhotsk and the Sea of ​​Japan, will be involved in the exercises. The exercises will be held under the leadership of Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces. The forces involved in the exercises will return to their permanent deployment points by the end of September.

Earlier, the Chinese Ministry of Defense, announcing participation in exercises with Russia, notedthat it “has nothing to do with the current international and regional situation”. The Japanese authorities, in turn, expressed concern in connection with the ongoing exercises, since they are taking place, including on the Kuril Islands.
