Figure skater Roman Kostomarov said in an interview “Channel One” December 16, that he sometimes regrets his decision to agree to amputation of limbs. According to him, he did not want to “be a burden” and disabled.
“I didn’t understand what I was going to do. What is this for? I didn’t want to be disabled… to live as a disabled person, especially like this. At least they would leave their hands,” said Mr. Kostomarov. He also spoke about his thoughts related to death. “Now I realized that death is not scary. It’s scary to remain disabled,” shared Roman Kostomarov.
In January, Roman Kostomarov was hospitalized with a severe form of pneumonia. He developed sepsis. Doctors amputated the athlete’s legs at the knee and fingers on both hands. He was discharged from the hospital in July. On December 11, he went on ice skates for the first time since the operation.
