“I operated on a soldier with a shell in his leg”: SVO heroes came to the MK editorial office

Irina Odinokikh and Timur Dudkin spoke about their exploits
On November 15, the editorial office of the Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper was visited by participants of a special military operation: Hero of Russia Major Timur Dudkin and military medic Sergeant of the Airborne Forces Irina Odinokikh. They are awarded military decorations, but they believe that they are simply fulfilling their duty in the Northern Military District, like all their colleagues: “There is a task, which means it must be completed.” In a conversation with the editor-in-chief of Moskovsky Komsomolets Pavel Gusev, they talked about what interests fighters in the North Military District zone and what news they would like to read behind the “ribbon”.
Timur Dudkin, together with his battalion, destroyed two dozen units of Ukrainian military equipment last fall. Moreover, there were five times more enemy forces than ours. The Ukrainian Armed Forces tried to break through the defense in one of the most difficult areas. The battalion commander was out of action, and Timur (then he was a captain) took command. The idea immediately came to lure a column of enemy armored vehicles into a “fire bag”. The plan was implemented. “The enemy was completely destroyed and captured. “More than two dozen pieces of enemy equipment were also burned,” Timur said. For that battle he was awarded the title of Hero of Russia.
Sergeant Irina Odinokikh serves as an operating nurse in the medical detachment of the airborne division. The fragile young woman went to the front almost immediately after the start of the special operation. Since then, I have spent a total of one and a half years behind the “ribbon”. He returns home for a few weeks and again to the front to help wounded soldiers.
She had the opportunity to participate in a unique surgical operation: the fighter received wounds to his legs, blood vessels and bones were damaged, but most importantly, an unexploded shell from a hand-held anti-tank grenade launcher was stuck in the muscles of his leg. Despite the threat of ammunition detonation, the medical team decided to carry out the operation. Nurse Irina assisted the doctor throughout the entire operation. Everyone stood at the surgical table in bulletproof vests. As a result, military doctors not only successfully removed the terrible foreign body, but also saved the soldier’s limb. For her heroic deed, Irina was awarded the medal “For saving the dead.”
The servicemen spoke with the newspaper’s editor-in-chief Pavel Gusev.
— “MK” is the largest Russian newspaper and publishing house. The publication operates in almost all regions, including new ones. And every day, through our Main Military-Political Directorate, we send copies of the newspaper to the Northern Military District zone,” the editor-in-chief of MK said during the meeting.
He said that as the head of the Public Council under the Ministry of Defense, he, as part of a delegation of social activists, often visits military units in various regions of Russia, as well as at Russian military bases abroad and in special operation zones. Members of the Public Council repeatedly visited hospitals where the wounded were being treated.
— I know firsthand what SVO is. Together with members of the Public Council, I visited difficult points, visited training grounds in the special operation zone where children are trained,” shared Pavel Gusev.
According to him, as many people as possible should learn about the heroic deeds of our soldiers.
“Your heroism should serve as an example for education, to raise the spirit of both fighters in the Northern Military District zone and citizens of all of Russia. This is a very important point,” Gusev said.
Hero of Russia Dudkin, in turn, said what interests the fighters on the front line most of all:
— The soldier is primarily interested in general reports on all fronts in order to better understand what is happening. Not only in Russia, but also in neighboring countries. The next question that interests him is how things are at home.
Pavel Gusev agreed with the fighter and noted that MK is trying to provide maximum information about what is happening in the regions.
— We have correspondent points everywhere from where we receive information. When, together with the Public Council, we travel to the regions – recently we were in Orenburg, Novosibirsk, Omsk, Makhachkala – we always meet with military families – wives, children. We look to see if everything is okay with providing for families, whether kindergartens are open, whether there are clinics for military wives and children. We fully address all issues of social significance.
After the conversation, the editor-in-chief showed the servicemen the editorial office and answered their questions.
