Budapest will carefully study the measures proposed in the EU’s eighth round of sanctions against Russia, but will not support energy restrictions. This was stated by the head of the administration of the Prime Minister of Hungary, Gergely Guiyash, during a briefing by the government.

“We are waiting for the appearance of an exact draft (eighth) sanctions package, we will carefully study it, then we can talk, but Hungary cannot support energy sanctions,” he said.

Last Wednesday, September 28, the European Commission presented its proposals for a new package of anti-Russian sanctions.

In turn, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that the whole of Europe is waiting for an answer from Brussels on how long the sanctions confrontation with Russia will continue.

He also urged to start negotiations on this issue with the United States, until, in his words, “it’s too late.”
