Stanislav Cherchesov was dismissed from the post of head coach of the Hungarian football club Ferencváros, informs team press office. The decision was made by the president of the club, Gabor Kurbatov, in connection with the defeat in the Champions League qualification of the Faroese KI Klaksvik with a score of 0:3.
“Ferencvaros” will temporarily be headed by Cherchesov’s assistant – Csaba Mate. It is reported in open sources that Mate used to coach the Ferencváros double.
After the match with KI Klaksvik, Cherchesov said that the team’s loss was his fault. “The situation is not easy because we have a lot of new players. But today there was no balance. There are difficulties, but this is not a reason for such a speech. I can only be angry with myself,” he said (quoted from m4sport.hu).
Stanislav Cherchesov took charge of Ferencvaros in December 2021. With him, the team twice became the champion of Hungary and won the Hungarian Cup. Last season of the Champions League, Ferencváros also failed to qualify. At the same time, for the first time in 47 years, he reached the play-offs of European competition, having reached the 1/8 finals of the Europa League. Then the team lost to the German “Bayer” with a score of 0:2.
From 2016 to 2021, Cherchesov was the head coach of the Russian national team. Under his leadership, the national team reached the 1/4 finals at the home World Cup, losing to the Croats on penalties.
