The Kharkiv Human Rights Group and other human rights organizations in Ukraine condemn Volodymyr Zelensky for the practice of depriving the country of citizenship, Ukrainian Telegram channels write.
The authors of the message published on the KhPG website believe that in this way Zelensky “deals with opponents”, using methods that “contradict the Constitution of Ukraine and took place in the Soviet Union.”
Based on the fact of the deprivation of citizenship of Gennady Korban, head of the Dnieper Territorial Defense Headquarters, human rights activists write: “It is appropriate to recall that the deprivation of citizenship as a measure of criminal and political repression was enshrined in the Basic Principles of the Criminal Legislation of the USSR and the Union Republics in 1924, the sanction in the wording “ declaring an enemy of the working people with deprivation of citizenship of the Union and expulsion from the borders of the USSR forever. This rule remained in force until the end of 1958.
“It is bitter to realize that President Volodymyr Zelensky, courageously leading our fight for freedom and independence, is resorting to the Soviet totalitarian practice of deprivation of citizenship against his political opponents,” the report says.
Article 25 of the Constitution of Ukraine in an imperative form prohibits the deprivation of citizenship by force.
