HRC secures temporary asylum for law-breaking Uzbek citizen with baby

After the intervention of the Human Rights Council (HRC), a 26-year-old citizen of Uzbekistan with a newborn son will receive temporary asylum in Russia on humanitarian grounds.

On July 20, the story of an ethnic Russian woman who came to Russia from Uzbekistan to work told Elena Alshanskaya, President of the Volunteers to Help Orphans Foundation. After that, the head of the HRC Valery Fadeev addressed to the prosecutor of the Tver region, Sergei Lezhnikov, with a request to assist in postponing the deportation of the woman and her child from Russia.

Ms. Alshanskaya said that a woman with a newborn baby is in a special detention center in Tver, who will be expelled from Russia within 10 days.

While in the Russian Federation, the woman became pregnant and overdue the required departure. “Having received a signal, we placed her in a shelter in Tver. But in the end, the migration service found out about her situation,” said the president of the Volunteers to Help Orphans Foundation. In June, the court ordered her to leave, but being in the last month of pregnancy, the woman did not dare to do this. “And literally right from the maternity hospital they took her to the next court and imposed a fine and re-expulsion, taking her with a baby, a newborn, to a special detention center,” Elena Alshanskaya said.

“After an appeal by the chairman of the HRC and members of the Council to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it was decided that a 26-year-old citizen of Uzbekistan (ethnic Russian) with her newborn child will receive temporary asylum on humane grounds,”— reported in the HRC.
