How much does it cost to break the fast at Easter?

This Sunday, April 16, Orthodox Christians celebrate the bright holiday of Easter. Mosstat has calculated how much it will cost Muscovites this year to prepare traditional Easter dishes.

The cost of the main decoration of the table – an Easter cake weighing 750 g, will cost Muscovites 274 rubles.

The recipe is as follows: 2 eggs – 19.70, milk 80 ml – 7.03 rubles, butter 130 g – 140.29 rubles, granulated sugar 100 g – 6.68 rubles, wheat flour 345 g – 20.60 rubles , table salt 30 g – 0.71 rubles, dried fruits 100 g – 79.77.

Mosstat statistics do not include yeast – and Easter cake is made with yeast. In addition, there is no cost for icing and sprinkles. Glaze can be prepared by yourself, or you can buy ready-made in tubes. Here everyone decorates according to their taste and financial capabilities.

A dozen eggs in the capital in March of this year cost an average of 98.5 rubles. And you can paint them in different ways, based on your desire and budget.

You can use store-bought food coloring, decorate with stickers, decals, or thermal wrap. And you can paint with onion peel, turmeric or hibiscus. Turmeric will color eggs yellow, hibiscus blue. But the color of eggs with onion peel in red-brown color is considered traditional. According to legend, Mary Magdalene presented an egg to Emperor Tiberius with the words “Christ is risen!”. The emperor replied that the dead cannot be resurrected, just as a white egg cannot become red. At that moment, the egg turned red.

However, the customs of eating eggs on spring holidays, and not simple, but colored, are known long before the rise of Christianity.

But let’s get back to the festive dishes and we will cook Easter cottage cheese. 500 g of cottage cheese will cost Muscovites 231.63 rubles. To this must be added 100 g of sugar – 6.68 rubles, 130 g of sour cream – 43.21 rubles, 100 g of butter – 107.92 rubles, 145 g of dried fruits – 115.66 rubles, 100 g of nuts – 146.99 rubles. The total dish will cost you 652 rubles 09 kopecks. But this is more than a kilogram of very satisfying and very tasty mass.

Add to this meat and dairy products. After all, Easter is the end of a long and rather difficult fast.

A kilogram of beef will cost Muscovites 756.47 rubles, a kilogram of pork – 417.53 rubles. Roughly in the middle between them is a turkey: 519.94 per kilogram. If you prefer chicken legs, then on average they cost 256.17 rubles. Smoked meats will cost you a thousand rubles a kilogram, and raw smoked sausage – 1408.05 per kilo. A kilogram of cheese or cheese on the festive table will cost an average of 818.35 rubles.
