Putin asked Beglov why St. Petersburg is in third place in tourism

Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting on tourism development on Thursday. During the meeting, he wondered why St. Petersburg ranks only third in popularity among tourists. He addressed his question to the governor of the Northern capital, Alexander Beglov.

“St. Petersburg is the world center of tourism. But for some reason, in terms of popularity, St. Petersburg is only in third place after Moscow, the Moscow region and the Krasnodar Territory. How can this be, Alexander Dmitrievich?” – asked the head of state.

To this Beglov replied that the reason for this is that in St. Petersburg “there is a cold sea compared to the Krasnodar Territory.”

In turn, Putin explained to him that, compared to St. Petersburg, the above-mentioned regions do not have such sights as St. Isaac’s Cathedral, the Peter and Paul Fortress, the Kunstkamera and others.

After this, Beglov promised that the Northern capital would take first place.
