The Ministry of Tourism and Folk Arts of Dagestan stated that, despite the recent unrest in the republic, local hotels are operating as usual and accepting guests regardless of their nationality and religion, reports TASS.
“Recent events in Dagestan have not affected the work of the republic’s hotel industry. Hotels operate as usual and welcome guests and tourists regardless of their nationality and religion. Our republic has always been famous for its hospitality and cordiality, and various information leaks on the Internet about the refusal to book rooms in the republic’s accommodation facilities on the basis of nationality are nothing more than a provocation and a desire to destabilize the situation in the region,” the Ministry of Tourism said in a statement.
The department also invited tourists to call the ministry’s hotline 8 8722 52-24-17 if they encounter any inconvenience when booking hotel rooms.
On October 29, crowds of people gathered at Makhachkala airport to prevent Israeli citizens from Tel Aviv arriving in the country. Protesters broke into the international terminal building and then ran onto the runway.
The Regional Investigative Committee opened a criminal case for mass riots. More than 80 people were detained, some of them were arrested. According to the regional Ministry of Health, 20 people were injured as a result of the unrest, including police officers. Russian President Vladimir Putin said the riots were provoked “by the hands of Western intelligence agencies.”
