Home-legends of the Navy stood up for a major overhaul

As part of the capital’s housing overhaul program, work is underway in three houses associated with the history of the Russian Navy. The Navy has been the pride of our country since ancient times. The names of many streets, avenues and boulevards of the capital are inspired by the names of its heroes.

Sixteen-story residential building No. 83, bldg. 2 on Sevastopol Avenue built according to a standard project in 1974. It is located at the intersection of Sevastopol and Balaklavsky avenues. They received their names in honor of the city – the hero of Sevastopol, where the main military base of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation is located, and the city, which was an “outpost” for combat submarines during the Second World War. On Sevastopol Avenue there is a monument to one of the most prominent admirals in the history of the Russian fleet P.S. Nakhimov. In honor of the commander of the squadron of the Black Sea Fleet, the winner of the Sinop battle of the Crimean War, the head of the defense of Sevastopol, Admiral Nakhimov, a metro station was also named, which stands on the avenue of the same name.

In house 83, building 2 on Sevastopolsky Prospekt, work is underway to overhaul the facade, entrances and replace the internal drain. Thanks to an integrated approach, the building will acquire a truly fresh look, become comfortable and safe. At the moment, experts have put the facade in order. Windows are being installed in common areas. Fully work on the overhaul of the house will be completed in the fall of 2022.

Meanwhile, another residential building is associated with the name of Admiral Nakhimov, in which work is underway as part of the capital’s overhaul program. it house number 7, located on Nakhimovsky Prospekt. Previously, the street was called “7th Cheryomushkinskaya”, and the name “Nakhimovsky” appeared at the avenue in 1965, this year marked the 110th anniversary of the death of the famous naval commander. 16-storey residential building No. 7, built in 1981. At the moment, it is carrying out work on the overhaul of the facade and entrances. Particular attention is paid to the renovation of the facade of the building. All work on the overhaul of the facility will be completed in October.

On another street that bears the name of the great Russian sailor and scientist, Admiral Stepan Osipovich Makarovthis year, as part of the capital’s overhaul program, they will put in order house N13. Currently, the site is undergoing work on updating the facade, roof, entrances and replacing engineering systems. The roof of the building is a pitched roof with a truss frame. Its overhaul includes the complete dismantling of the old metal roofing and the replacement of the lathing. All wooden structures will be treated with fire-retardant compositions without fail. Completion of work on the overhaul of the house will take place in November.

The five-story residential building No. 13 on Admiral Makarov Street was built in 1958 according to a standard project. The facade of the building is decorated with a crowning cornice.

A bust of Admiral N.G. is installed nearby on this street. Kuznetsov, who headed the Soviet Navy in 1939-1947 and 1951-1955. Thanks to his actions at the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, the navy was completely preserved and conducted successful operations against the enemy. In 1945 Kuznetsov was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. From 1951-1953, Admiral Kuznetsov was the Commander-in-Chief of the USSR Navy. We also owe the appearance of a professional holiday among military sailors to Admiral Kuznetsov, who proposed to the Council of People’s Commissars in 1939 to establish a professional holiday – Navy Day to increase the prestige of naval service. There is a legend that Stalin himself chose the date of the holiday – July 24, because it was the admiral’s birthday. Since 1980, the celebration has been moved to the last day off in July.
