76-year-old actress Susan Sarandon was detained at a protest in the United States
Oscar-winning actress Susan Sarandon, 76, has been detained at a protest in New York, writes the Daily Mail.
According to media reports, Sarandon participated in a protest at the Capitol to raise the minimum wage for restaurant workers. They were not included in the new state legislation to increase the minimum wage to $17 an hour.
“They (restaurant workers) are very important and should be treated with dignity, not only because of the backbreaking work they do,” Sarandon said, speaking to the public at the rally.
The actress was among the eight detained activists of the organization “Unified Fair Wages”. She and her associates were fined, after which they were released.
Sarandon is known for her roles in Dead Man Walking (Oscar for Best Actress), Stepmother, Lorenzo’s Oil and many others.
