The Sibir hockey club lost four points and now risks missing the playoffs. The KHL detected a violation of the limit on foreign players in the team, for which it was awarded four technical defeats.

The audit revealed that at the beginning of the season, in the matches “Avangard” – “Sibir”, “Barys” – “Sibir”, “Sibir” – “Barys” and “Sibir” – “Avtomobilist”, four hockey players from Novosibirsk took to the ice with status of foreigners. In addition to Andy Andreoff, Taylor Beck and Trevor Murphy, Russian citizen Fedor Gordeev was also recognized as a legionnaire.

The reason is that Fedor lived and played almost all of his life in Canada, has citizenship of this country and does not have the right to play for the Russian national team. In other words, the player was recognized as a sports citizen of another country, and therefore the status of a foreign player. Now in the KHL, a team can put a maximum of three foreigners on the ice.

As a result, the results of the mentioned matches were annulled. In them, “Sibir” scored four points, which they have now lost. Novosibirsk is now in ninth place in the East standings with 51 points, only one point ahead of Amur, which has a game in hand. Before this, Sibir had an equal number of points with Neftekhimik, which is in eighth place – the last position that gives the right to reach the playoffs.

In the regular championship, the Novosibirsk team has 16 games left to play.

Earlier, MK in Novosibirsk reported that HC Siberia sued 50 thousand rubles from a businesswoman from Berdsk.
