Russian hockey goalie Ivan Fedotov has joined the Philadelphia Flyers club of the National Hockey League (NHL), the team’s press service reported on social network X.

Ivan Fedotov was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers back in 2015. In May 2022, the goalkeeper signed a one-year agreement with the hockey club. However, on July 1, he was detained in St. Petersburg on suspicion of evading conscription. On July 3, Ivan Fedotov was sent to a military unit in Severodvinsk for military service, and then transferred to the St. Petersburg Naval Academy.

After completing his military service, Ivan Fedotov signed a contract with CSKA, for which he played until the end of the 2021/22 season. At the same time, the Philadelphia Flyers and the NHL management stated that the contract of the American team with the Russian was not terminated, but only frozen, which means that the hockey player did not have the right to sign an agreement with the Russian club. Due to the violation, Ivan Fedotov was disqualified until the end of 2023 by decision of the International Hockey Federation. On March 28, 2024, CSKA terminated the contract with Fedotov.
