An expeditionary force may include several divisions and brigades

The idea of sending NATO troops to Ukraine, voiced by French President Emmanuel Macron, despite the fact that it has not yet met unanimous approval among all the countries of the alliance, can be implemented. This is stated in the article by Hero of Russia, military intelligence veteran Rustem Klupov, which was published in the electronic publication “Army standard”.

According to the expert, in this regard, it is important to have an idea of the possible composition of the Western expeditionary forces, the assets they may include, their organizational structure and the timing of the possible readiness of these forces to enter Ukraine.

Rustem Klupov believes that due to the heterogeneity of the North Atlantic Alliance, the NATO bloc is not capable of presenting a united front. But the possibility cannot be ruled out that Russia’s most malicious opponents will unite into an anti-Russian military coalition outside NATO. Countries such as France, Britain, the United States and their satellites could form a multinational expeditionary force outside NATO. According to the expert, the formation and coordination of these forces will likely take three to four months.

The multinational expeditionary force will most likely be formed from military units of individual NATO countries that have concluded an agreement on security guarantees with Kiev. These are, for example, the French armed forces, including the Foreign Legion (light infantry division). The United States can allocate the 101st Airborne Division, a fighter wing, an interservice operational formation, and a Patriot anti-aircraft missile division.

From Germany, the corps may include the 21st armored brigade, the IRIS-T anti-aircraft missile division; from Denmark – 1st motorized infantry brigade; from Britain – a fighter wing, as well as the 3rd battalion of the Ranger Regiment; from Italy – army aviation brigade. Poland has for these purposes the 18th mechanized division and the 2nd reconnaissance regiment, trained for operations in Western Ukraine. In Romania, the 2nd Infantry Division is at a high level of readiness.

The conclusion made by Rustem Klupov: Western countries that guarantee the security of Ukraine can create a multinational group of troops of more than 65 thousand people within three to four months. The expeditionary force may include 4 divisions, 2 separate brigades, more than 700 tanks, more than 800 field artillery pieces, 72 HIMARS rocket systems, 100 multiple launch rocket systems, and up to 300 combat helicopters.

According to the expert, such a number of expeditionary troops will ensure the conduct of active combat operations on a front of 250–300 kilometers or maintaining defenses on a front up to 500 kilometers wide.

As a measure to counter Western plans, Klupov names our decisive actions and the rapid defeat of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which excludes long-term opposition from the enemy.
