In the first months of 2023, Russians tested immunity to the measles virus twice as often as a year earlier. However, 72% of citizens did not have immunity to this infection, according to a study by the Hemotest laboratory.
“Hemotest” in 2023 conducted 17 thousand tests for IgG antibodies to measles. The exact timing of their implementation is not specified. The results of the study are cited by RIA Novosti.
According to the laboratory, 80% of patients who tested their immunity to measles in the Leningrad Region, the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug and the Stavropol Territory are not protected from measles. This figure is slightly lower in Moscow and St. Petersburg (75-77% of people), as well as in the Moscow region (73%).
The first measles vaccine is given to a child at one year old, then repeated at six years old. After the second vaccination, immunity is formed in 95% of cases and lasts a maximum of 18 years, the Hemotest specified, therefore, adults are advised to control the level of antibodies (IgG class) every five years.
In February 2019, in one of the buildings of the Higher School of Economics in Moscow, quarantine was introduced in connection with a case of measles, several hundred students suspended from classes. Rospotrebnadzor tied a surge in the incidence throughout Russia with the “importation of infection from disadvantaged countries.” This week the students of the Russian State University of Oil and Gas sent away for 21 days due to a case of measles.
