Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan agreed to take part in a trilateral meeting, which will be held at the end of October in Brussels. This was announced by the head of the European Council, Charles Michel.

“I decided to invite both leaders to Brussels at the end of October, and both leaders agreed to come to this meeting. We intend to do a lot of work to normalize relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia,” he said (quote according to RIA Novosti).

Previously Aliyev refused from participating in a five-party meeting with Pashinyan and representatives of France, Germany and the EU, which was to be held on October 5 in Granada. He explained his decision by refusing to allow Turkish representatives into the negotiations.

After this, Michel said that the EU had sent invitations to the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia for negotiations in Brussels at the end of October. “We believe in diplomacy. We believe in political dialogue,” said Michel (quote according to Reuters).

On September 19, Azerbaijan announced the start of “anti-terrorist measures” necessary for the “restoration of the constitutional order” in Nagorno-Karabakh. The next day, Karabakh authorities announced the conclusion of agreements on a complete ceasefire. On September 21, negotiations were held in Yevlakh between the delegation of the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh and representatives of the Azerbaijani authorities. On September 23, Aliyev said that after the “anti-terrorist operation” in Karabakh have developed more favorable conditions for concluding a peace treaty between Baku and Yerevan. On October 5, Pashinyan, during a meeting in Granada, Spain, signed a declaration recognizing Nagorno-Karabakh as the territory of Azerbaijan.
