The head of the Presidential Council for Human Rights (HRC), Valery Fadeev, believes that “a wave of low culture has fallen on the world.” In his opinion, only proper education can help to cope with this “shaft of vulgarity”. He called science, art and religion “the cornerstones of the future educational system”.
During a speech at the St. Petersburg International Education Forum, the head of the HRC said that such a “low” culture “has always been, but never dominated.” He argues that “its representatives did not allow themselves to destroy the hierarchy of cultural values”, and that earlier “creators were talented people.”
“Now, however, low culture is pushing forward untalented insolent people who know how to indulge the vulgar preferences of the public, because they themselves are vulgar. Now there is nothing to be ashamed of, because the measure of the success of a cultural product is quickly earned money. I believe that only proper education will pacify this ninth wave of vulgarity that has overwhelmed society, ”Mr. Fadeev is convinced, quoted by press office HRC.
The head of the council said that there are “three institutions of knowledge of the world: science, art and religion”, each of which has its own “specific methods of knowledge.” Valery Fadeev argues that all people should “at least have an idea about them.” “We impoverish the knowledge of the child and the young person in advance, limiting the education system only to allegedly authentic and verified sources of truth. This needs to be changed. The humanization of a person, his ennoblement, familiarization with the absolute – this will be the answer to the challenge of the time, ”the head of the HRC is sure.
