General Director of the Russian Hockey Federation Dmitry Kurbatov said that the situation with Sibir being deprived of four points due to exceeding the limit of foreign players is surprising and looks very bad. He said this in an interview with Match TV.
According to him, the time frame for making the KHL decision was greatly delayed. After all, Siberia broke the rules for the first time back in September. Four had the status of a foreign player in Siberia: Andy Andreoff, Taylor Beck, Trevor Murphy and Fedor Gordeev, who has a Russian passport.
For this violation, the KHL canceled the results of four matches of Siberia in the KHL championship and awarded it technical defeats. After this, Sibir left the playoff zone with 10th place in the Eastern Conference standings with 51 points.
However, the International Hockey Federation usually needs more time to investigate such facts. And the situation with “Siberia” generally became known from the press and just at the moment when there was very little left until the end of the championship. And this just looks very strange.
The management of Sibir has already tried to appeal the KHL decision, and Kurbatov’s visit to Novosibirsk shocked many. FHR will also participate in reviewing the situation with Sibir.
