An unknown hacker claimed to have gained access to 400 million Twitter user accounts. He offered Twitter owner Elon Musk to buy them out, writes the Security Affairs portal.
A hacker with the nickname Ryushi opened a “trial access” to 1,000 Twitter accounts on the dark web to prove the authenticity of his words. The list even includes the account of Donald Trump Jr., as well as cybersecurity expert Brian Krebs.
Ryushi said that Twitter and Musk risk being fined by the GDPR, the EU’s general data protection regulation.
“Imagine a fine for 400 million leaked accounts. Your best option to avoid a $276 million fine for violating the GDPR, as Facebook (owned by Meta, recognized as extremist and banned in Russia – Ed.) did, is to buy data on an exclusive basis, ”wrote Ryushi.
Musk has yet to respond to the hacker’s statement.
