Actor and screenwriter Mickey De Hara filed a lawsuit against renowned director Guy Ritchie in March, accusing him of embezzling the script for The Gentlemen, according to Variety.
According to the lawsuit, Richie asked DeHara to write a script for a sequel to Rock and Roll based on his life experiences. After the script was ready, Richie announced that he would no longer be making a gangster movie. The following year, 2019, the film “Gentlemen” was released, in which De Hara recognized his script.
The screenwriter believes that Richie almost completely borrowed his script, including plot twists and characters. De Hara accuses Ritchie of using his script without any knowledge and is demanding more than $250,000 in damages. The director himself has not yet responded to De Har’s accusations.
The Gentlemen is a crime comedy starring Charlie Hunnam, Henry Golding, Michelle Dockery, Colin Farrell, Hugh Grant and Matthew McConaughey. The film premiered on 3 December 2019 in London at the Curzon Mayfair Cinema. The film was released in Russia on February 13, 2020. The film grossed nearly $115 million.
