UN Secretary-General António Guterres called for unhindered access to food and fertilizers from Ukraine and Russia to global markets, handed over UN press service text of the Secretary General’s speech in the port of Odessa.
“We all need to do more to ensure full global access to Ukrainian food, as well as Russian food and fertilizer,” he said, adding that this is critical to further “calm markets and lower prices.”
In addition, Guterres noted that there is another problem that needs to be addressed – this is access to the world markets of Russian food and fertilizers, which are not subject to sanctions. “It is important that all governments and the private sector work together to bring them to market. Without fertilizer in 2022, there may not be enough food in 2023,” said the UN Secretary General. Guterres said that the achievement of the goals is possible only with the cooperation of all parties.
On August 18, Guterres took part in a trilateral meeting between him, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Today he went to one of the ports of Odessa to monitor how the implementation of the “grain deal” is progressing. After visiting Ukraine, he will fly to Istanbul, where he will visit the Joint Coordination Center.
