The new social network Threads, recently launched by Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta (recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation and banned) is unlikely to become popular among Russian users. So says Anton Gorelkin, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy (United Russia). On Twitter, owned by Elon Musk, did not rule out lawsuit against Meta over Threads.
“So far I have the feeling that the new social network is unlikely to become popular inside Russia: nevertheless, the Twitter mechanics did not take root very well with us,” Mr. Gorelkin wrote in his Telegram channel. It is not yet clear how many Russian users have signed up for Threads, he also said, noting that Threads appears to be interested in a Russian audience.
Two days after the launch of Threads scored over 70 million users.
