Google will offer users to set passkey by default – Kommersant

The American corporation Google will now suggest users to set authentication without passwords (passkey) by default. When you sign in to your Google account, you’ll be prompted to set up a passkey, which is believed to provide stronger cryptographic protection than standard passwords.
You can log in using your fingerprint, face scan or PIN code. This is possible thanks to a cryptographic token that is transferred between the smartphone and the website. Google explained that passkey makes logging in much more secure because it is “public key access cryptography.” This key is displayed in your online account only when the smartphone is unlocked. The passkey system is actively promoted not only by Google, but also by Microsoft and Apple. In company started talking about the new system in May 2022 and hope to make passkey the new security standard in the future.
