Google introduced an AI system for writing program code Gemini Code Assist

American corporation Google at the Cloud Next event presented a new AI system to help you write code called Gemini Code Assist. The neural network will also have a line completion function.

Earlier, in 2023, Google launched a similar project – Duet AI. But even then the company was planning to transfer it from the Codey model to the Gemini, which is what happened. Code Assist is, on the one hand, a rebranding of the old service, and on the other, a major update. It will be available in plugin format for VS Code and JetBrains environments.

In its current form, Gemini Code Assist is a direct competitor to GitHub Copilot Enterprise and has a context window of a million tokens, which will allow the system to both suggest its own code suggestions with high accuracy and modify and analyze large chunks of code. Google is also testing AI customization based on the company’s internal database.

Unlike its competitors, Gemini Code Assist supports projects distributed across multiple platforms and repositories, including GitHub, GitLab, and Atlassian BitBucket. Google also announced CodeGemme for code generation and editing. It is an open model of the Gemma family and is available on the Vertex AI cloud platform.
