Video blogger, google, shawarma and shawarma, jet lag, antivaxer, media fake, millennials, poker face, retweet, telegram channel, burger, UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) … Russian Spelling Dictionary of the V.V. Vinogradov was replenished with 151 new words. You can view the entire list of words on the website of the spelling academic resource “Akademos” by writing “2022” in the search bar.

Of course, the world is evolving. People begin to explore new areas of activity, new professions appear, the national composition is changing. All this leaves an imprint on the Russian language. We decided to ask Russian language teachers and students how they feel about the appearance of new words in the language, and, as a result, in the spelling dictionary.

Oksana Laskovskaya, philologist, teacher of Russian language and literature.

For many, the first reaction to such news is bewilderment. Word lists do sometimes include “weird” words, at least at first glance.

However, whatever the public reaction to the emergence of new words, in fact, their inclusion in the dictionary is an important and correct work. Language is alive, it changes. And in this age of abundant written communication, dictionaries must keep pace with life. Any person should have easy and quick access to reference materials, and the annual updates of the dictionary by linguists help us all a lot. All the words from the list have been used everywhere for a long time, you need to be able to write them correctly everywhere: in the media, blogs, personal messages – that is, where we, the carriers, want to comply with the norm and be understood correctly due to this.

It is important to remember that words do not get into dictionaries just like that, behind this there is always a huge analytical work of a large team of linguists.

Maria Sevostyanova, Russian language teacher

Today I heard in the media about the introduction of 151 words into the Russian Spelling Dictionary, among which were, for example, the words familiar to me – “shawarma”, “google”, “vyshyvanka”, but for the first time I got acquainted with the words “amorel”, “gazetir”.

Undoubtedly, you need to be able to write such neologisms correctly, but I had several questions: “How were these words selected: on the basis of the highest frequency of use compared to other“ new ”words?”, “Have the appropriate linguistic and statistical studies been carried out ?”, “Is it true that all words are authentic and cannot be replaced by Russian synonyms that do not litter the Russian language?”.

Marina Lashchevskaya, Russian language teacher

The Russian language is a living organism. It changes, develops, lives together with society, reflects the realities that arise in our lives. Sometimes he behaves like a teenager, collecting everything new and fashionable.

How can this be treated? We calmly perceive the wind when it blows. The question is rather that the introduction of any words into dictionaries should be accompanied by notes, for example, “colloquial”, “special”. Then people using the reference books had a clear idea of what belongs to the literary norm and what goes beyond it. limits.

It is very important to supplement the dictionary of the Russian language, because with the passage of time and the development of events in the world, speech also changes, and many previously familiar words turn into archaisms. Language is a living organism. Naturally, the vocabulary (the most mobile layer of the language) is constantly updated. Following her, the spelling undergoes changes.

But is every word that is used now worthy of getting into dictionaries? I am a conservative. I would not include all these words in dictionaries, because I consider most of them “weeds”, without which the language could do just fine. I think if they were banned at the level of television and the press, people would not use such words. And accordingly, it would not be necessary to puzzle over how to write them, and look into the spelling dictionary.

Sofia Patronova, 11th grade

From the point of view of borrowing, these words are quite relevant in our time. They do not spoil the language, but rather improve it and make it more plastic.

Your opinion?
