Good New Year’s Tale at the Theater in the South-West

“A good New Year’s fairy tale, captivating both children and adults. Here everyone is a child, eager to see the New Year’s miracle. An unusually interesting play of light with amazing musical accompaniment, immersing the viewer in a magical world. There is no clear boundary between the stage and the hall in the theater, which creates the effect of complete immersion,” a married couple with two children shared their first impressions.

In one of the smallest theater halls in Moscow – the Theater in the South-West – the premiere of the most famous Christmas and New Year story about the brave Nutcracker took place. The play “The Nutcracker VS The Mouse King” was presented by the director, who is staging not the first children’s story, Mikhail Belyakovich. Together with the writer Pavel Surkov, they have adapted the long tale of Hoffmann with many characters and twisted plot twists and turns to a childish perception that does not tolerate procrastination. The directors did not forget about adults, who should be given relevance and truthfulness.

“We did this work with pleasure,” director Mikhail Belyakovich told reporters before the premiere. And the playwright turned to his parents: “Try to understand in history what the children will understand in it.” Considering the full house and applause after the premiere performances, the troupe of the play “The Nutcracker VS The Mouse King” succeeded.

The family atmosphere of the premiere and New Year’s Eve expectation of a MIRACLE converged at the Theater in the South-West on the eve of the main and favorite holiday of Russians. Dressed-up children with their parents and grandparents, an art cafe decorated with garlands with a beautifully decorated Christmas tree, children’s laughter and hubbub, hospitality of the theater administration – all this contributed to the success of the premiere. The performance turned out, as it should be for New Year’s Eve, cheerful, sparkling, filled with a good sense of humor and almost a family atmosphere. And the wonderful work of the actors, who sincerely played a story familiar from childhood, became the very miracle that everyone dreams of on the eve of the New Year.

Artists of the theater’s younger generation are involved in the performance: Yegor Kuchkarov, Artur Khachatryan, Alexander Baidakov, Alina Lakomkina, Olga Avilova, Igor Stepashin, Maxim Gigenin, Vadim Sokolov, Veronika Sarkisova, Lyudmila Lazareva, Andrey Kudzin, Anton Belov, Ivan Gorodetsky and Elena Luntsova.

Exciting extravaganza of the visual series, the fabulous life of the mouse kingdom in the dungeon, panoramic performances, the epic pantomime scene of the battle between dolls and mice – this is what Mikhail Belyakovich’s director’s vision and the wonderful performing skills of the actors of the Theater in the South-West are.
