Global chip sales fell more than 20% year-on-year

Global semiconductor industry sales in February 2023 were $39.7 billion, down 4% from January’s $41.3 billion and 20.7% from February 2022, when volume sales was at the level of $50 billion. This is stated in the report of the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), which is published on the website of the organization.

Regionally, February sales rose slightly year-on-year in Japan (+1.2%), but declined in Europe (-0.9%), the Americas (-14.8%), Asia-Pacific and other regions (-22.1%) and China (-34.2%), follows from the report of the organization. Compared to January, sales decreased in all regions: Europe (-0.3%), Japan (-0.3%), Asia-Pacific and other regions (-3.6%), North and South America (-5 .3%) and China (-5.9%).

“Global chip sales continued to decline in February, declining year on year and month on month,” said John Neuffer, President and CEO of SIA. “Short-term market cyclicality and macroeconomic difficulties have led to lower sales, but the medium- and long-term market outlook remains bright due to growing demand in a number of markets.”

SIA analyzes sales data from 99% of the US semiconductor industry and about 66% of chip manufacturers from other countries.

Earlier it became known that at the end of 2022, the American Intel retained the title of the world’s most expensive brand in the field of semiconductors, slightly ahead of the Taiwanese TSMC. In particular, the value of the Intel brand last year decreased by 10%, to $22.9 billion. On the contrary, the TSMC brand rose in price by 5% in 2022, and now its value is estimated at $21.6 billion, analysts calculated. Also in the top three was the American Nvidia, whose brand value at the end of last year amounted to $16.9 billion.
