The governor of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, said that the issue of arming the territorial defense units formed in the region could be resolved in the near future. At the moment, according to the law, the fighters of the defense system do not have the right to carry weapons.

“We have them [отряды самообороны]. Almost 3 thousand people, seven battalions along the border. They have been training since November last year. Already combat-ready units, dressed in uniform, equipment provided. The only thing that, in accordance with the current legislation, the issue of weapons has not yet been resolved, ”said Vyacheslav Gladkov during the traditional live broadcast with residents during “In contact with”.

According to Mr. Gladkov, the authorities of the Belgorod region want to arm the territorial defense units, but this issue “needs to be resolved in the legal field.” It is possible that the regional leadership will have to initiate amendments to the current legislation. According to him, the defense fighters should be able to “repel the enemy professionally, not amateurishly.”

The governor clarified that it was not necessary to involve territorial defense units during the recent penetration of Ukrainian saboteurs into the territory of the Belgorod region.
