Center named after Gamaleyi is conducting clinical trials of the Sputnik V vaccine, adapted for the new strain of coronavirus XBB-1.5 (“Kraken”), he said in an interview “Gazeta.ru” head of the center Alexander Gintsburg. According to him, the existing version of Sputnik “has ceased to protect at all.”
Mr. Gunzburg noted that the COVID-19 pandemic is still not over. He said that, starting in mid-summer 2022, when new variants of the strain appeared, the effectiveness of Sputnik V dropped eight times, and with the appearance of a couple more strains, “already 20 times.”
“And when the XBB.1.5 version of Omicron (Kraken) appeared,” this was in January 2023, “Sputnik simply stopped protecting completely. Therefore, it was necessary to change the antigenic composition of the vaccine last summer,” the scientist believes.
He added that clinical trials of the updated vaccine should be completed on December 10. The new version of the drug may enter civilian circulation by March 2024. At the same time, Alexander Ginzburg admitted that “there is a possibility that this vaccine in March will no longer be very relevant or completely irrelevant.”
Since the end of August, the incidence of coronavirus in the world started grow against the backdrop of the emergence of a new version of “omicron” entitled “pirola”. Rospotrebnadzor does not see reasons for returning the mask regime. Early October became knownthat the largest private clinics in Moscow no longer have Sputnik V.
Details are in the Kommersant FM article. “Vaccines are on the waiting list”.
