Gianni Infantino has been re-elected as President of the International Football Federation (FIFA). The elections were held on Thursday at the FIFA Congress in the capital of Rwanda, Kigali. Mr. Infantino was elected without a vote on the basis of the rules of the organization, since he was the only candidate in the elections. He will serve as FIFA president until 2027.
“To be the president of FIFA is an incredible honor, an amazing privilege, and also a huge responsibility. I was really touched by your support and trust. Leadership is the ability to listen and learn, I learn something new every day, it is also the ability to act. You can trust me and my commitment (FIFA values.— “b”), said Mr. Infantino. The ceremony was broadcast on website FIFA.
Gianni Infantino took over FIFA on February 26, 2016 after a corruption scandal in the organization and the early resignation of its previous president, Joseph Blatter, from his post. In June 2019, he was elected to a second term. From 2000 to 2016, Mr. Infantino worked for the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA).
