German Fencing Federation (DFB) refused from holding the Women’s World Cup in Tauberbischofsheim, which was scheduled for the first days of May.
This decision was made after Russian and Belarusian athletes were allowed to participate in international competitions. In this regard, the president of the German Fencing Federation, Claudia Bockel, said that the decision caused heated discussions both inside and outside the organization.
She also stressed that the German Fencing Federation is still in solidarity with the people in Ukraine who are suffering from the fighting and that there are many open questions that make the tournament impossible.
“As before, we stand in solidarity with the people in Ukraine who are suffering from the fighting,” Bokel said. “We want to send a clear message that we would like a different outcome. We still see a lot of open questions… tournament”.
Recall that on March 10, at the FIE Congress, it was decided to allow fencers from Russia and Belarus to participate in international competitions, who were suspended in March 2022 in accordance with the recommendation of the IOC.
