Germany issues arrest warrants for 23 suspected of preparing and supporting a coup d’état

The Federal Supreme Court of Germany issued warrants for the arrest of 23 suspected of preparing a coup d’etat, including a Russian citizen, follows from a statement by the country’s prosecutor general’s office.

“Investigating judges at the Federal Supreme Court on December 7-8 executed arrest warrants against [22] citizens of Germany, as well as against Russian citizen Vitalia B., ”the statement says (quote according to TASS). According to investigators, the Russian woman allegedly supported them.

In relation to two Germans detained in the framework of the case of preparing a coup d’état in Italy and Austria, “the extradition procedure has begun.”

In the press service of the department earlier reportedthat the suspects are members and supporters of a terrorist organization that was created in 2021. Their goal was to “overthrow the existing political system in Germany,” the agency said.

The Prosecutor General’s Office noted that one of the suspects tried to establish contact with representatives of the Russian Federation in Germany. It is specified that the Russian woman is suspected of helping members of the group to contact representatives of the Russian Federation. At the same time, the investigation has no evidence that the Russian side supported the conspirators.

Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov became comment on information about the detention of people. He pointed out that this is an internal problem of Germany.
