Personal cars of Russians, on which they entered Germany, may be arrested
German authorities warn that entering their territory in a private car from Russia can lead to the arrest of the vehicle. Such a statement is contained in a written response received by RBC from the German customs.
According to a representative of the German General Directorate of Customs, the import of passenger cars from Russia to the European Union is prohibited in accordance with Article 3i of Regulation 833/2014, which establishes an embargo against the Russian Federation. The concept of “import” in this context actually covers any movement of goods. At the same time, the prohibition established by the embargo does not provide for exceptions for these circumstances.
Article 3i includes a prohibition on “acquisition, import or transfer, directly or indirectly, of goods that generate significant income for Russia” from list XXI, if these goods are of Russian origin or exported from Russia.
Thus, Russians who plan to visit Germany in their car should be careful, as such a move may result in the arrest of the car by the German customs authorities.
