GeekBrains: Russians have become more likely to learn English and be interested in IT

The share of those wishing to learn a new profession has grown from 20% in 2021 to 32% in 2022, according to a survey by the educational platform GeekBrains. The share of those who would like to develop their own business decreased from 6% to 4%. Instead of design and marketing, Russians began to study English more often and become interested in the IT sphere.
More than 800 thousand people aged 18 to 55 participated in the survey. Of these, 59% are men. The dates of the study were not given.
As the survey showed, respondents showed a 6% increase in interest in studying specific topics and gaining new knowledge, and 5% in freelancing and commissioned work. The need to learn new technologies also increased over the year, from 47% to 54%. The number of those who are attracted by development (from 30% to 47%), testing (from 17% to 27%) and system analytics (from 11% to 19%) has grown.
Programming began to be taught 9% more often. Increased popularity of Python (by 15%), web development (by 10%), Java (by 11%), IT analytics (by 9%), information and cyber security (by 8%), databases (by 8%) , frontend development (by 8%), backend development (by 8%), fullstack development (by 8%), game development (8%), Data Science (by 7%), JavaScript (by 7%), C++ (by 8%), SQL (by 8%), studying artificial intelligence (by 7%), hardware programming (by 7%) and Big Data (by 5%). The number of novice programmers has grown from 19% to 27% in 2022.
In addition, this year people became more interested in English (by 10%), business analytics (by 6%), game analytics (by 6%), financial analytics (by 5%) and information technology (by 5%). ). At the same time, the share of those interested in design (by 8%), marketing (by 12%), the study of personality development (by 7%), psychology (by 5%), and photography (by 4%) has decreased.
Over the year, the proportion of non-working respondents decreased from 26% to 22%. The number of those who earn less than 30 thousand rubles a month has decreased from 24% to 21%. The number of those who are ready to take only free courses has grown, from 36% to 47%. The share of respondents who have a personal laptop or desktop computer increased by 9%, while the number of those who own PCs and portable devices fluently increased from 21% to 26%.
In September, the Ministry of Digital published a list of 195 specialties in the fields of IT and communications, for which a deferment from mobilization is recommended. Since September 27, Gosuslugakh has launched a service for collecting data on employees of accredited IT companies.
