As a result of the Israeli army’s strikes on the Gaza Strip, 9,488 people have already been killed, including 3,900 children, the enclave’s Ministry of Health said in a statement on social networks.
According to this agency, another 24,158 people were injured, and about 2,000 are listed as missing. Today’s strike on Al-Fakhoura School is said to have killed 15 people and injured 70 others. The increased mortality is also due to a shortage of hospitals and medicines, the Ministry of Health added.
The Gaza-based Palestinian group Hamas attacked southern Israel on October 7, killing about 1,400 people. The Israeli army responded by launching Operation Iron Swords. On October 27, the Israeli military announced an expansion of the ground operation and called on residents of the northern Gaza Strip to move to the south, promising them humanitarian assistance. On November 2, the Israeli army conducted an operation to encircle Gaza City, then starting fighting in the city with Hamas militants.
On October 27, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution put forward by Arab countries that calls for an immediate truce in the conflict zone between Israel and Palestine. On October 30, Commissioner General of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, reported that 70% of those killed in the Gaza Strip were women and children. According to him, more than 3,200 children died in three weeks, which cannot be considered “collateral damage.”
On November 2, Israeli Defense Forces spokesman Daniel Hagari said that there were at least 242 hostages in the Gaza Strip who had been taken from Israel.
