At a meeting on the development of the space industry under the leadership of President Vladimir Putin, the project for the creation of the Russian Orbital Station (ROS) was approved, said the head of Roscosmos, Yuri Borisov. According to him, funding has been allocated for the project. He did not name a specific amount.
“The decision has been unequivocal – instructions have been given to approve the federal project for the manned program, for the creation of the Russian orbital station… Funding has been allocated, the main indicators for this project have been determined,” Mr. Borisov told reporters (quoted by Interfax).
He is convinced that Russia needs to start creating an orbital station in 2024 so as not to lose competence in this area. “If we do not begin full-scale work on the creation of the Russian orbital station in 2024, then there may be a possibility that we will lose competencies due to a break,” added the head of Roscosmos.
It is assumed that the first ROS module will be launched in 2027, and astronauts will be sent to it in 2028. Yuri Borisov promised that the station would be completed by 2032. Meeting with the participation of Mr. Putin passed yesterday, October 26, in the evening.
Details of the meeting are in the Kommersant material. “On the Moon as on the Moon”.
