French 21-year-old swimmer Léon Marchand set a new world record in the 400m medley at the World Aquatics Championships.
The result of 4 minutes 2.5 seconds was shown by the Frenchman in the final swim. Silver went to American Carson Foster, and bronze went to Japanese athlete Daiiya Seto.
Thus, Marchand broke the record of the legendary American, 23-time Olympic champion Mile Phelps, who had been holding since the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
Marchand became a three-time world champion.
