France has decided to ban schoolgirls from wearing traditional Muslim long abaya dresses. It is reported by BFMTV.
According to Minister of National Education and Youth Affairs Gabriel Attal, in any school class it should be impossible to determine the religion of the students by looking at them. He stressed that this week he will start discussing this issue with the principals of various schools in order to help them comply with the ban.
The French Council of the Muslim Worship, in turn, noted that the abaya is not Muslim religious clothing, but a “fashion form”. They also added that the minister should have sought the views of religious leaders before deciding on a ban.
