The head of the Ministry of Education and Science revealed the details of the new system of higher education

The pilot project to test the new Russian higher education system will affect applicants in 2023 to six universities participating in the experiment. This was announced on Tuesday, May 23, by the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Valery Falkov.

The head of the Ministry of Education and Science specified that the pilot project will be implemented in six universities in the 2023/2024 academic year, and in 2025 there will be a massive transition to new higher education programs.

The duration of training is to be determined by universities that train specialists in a particular area, together with employers and with the relevant ministry, Falkov said. He explained that, for example, in healthcare, one period of preparation is required, in agriculture, another.

At the same time, graduates of a specialty in the new system of higher education will be able to enroll in a master’s program for state-funded places, while now they do not have the right to study at a master’s program for free, the minister said on the air of the Rossiya 1 TV channel.

In February, in his message to the Federal Assembly, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke about the development of the scientific sphere, voiced proposals for attracting young scientists, and stated on Russia’s withdrawal from the Bologna system of education.

As Prime Minister of Russia Mikhail Mishustin noted, a return to the traditions of domestic higher education will allow young Russians to get a good education and become in-demand specialists.
