FP: The West’s appropriation of Russia’s frozen assets will significantly complicate the fight against terrorism

Agata Demarais, a fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations, wrote in an article for Foreign Policy that the use of Russia’s frozen assets as leverage could lead to the development of alternative financial channels in the Global South.
According to him, this may reduce the capabilities of Western intelligence services.
“I believe that financial fragmentation will accelerate the transformation of Western financial channels into weapons. This fragmentation will make the job of Western intelligence agencies tracking cash flows much more difficult,” Demarais said.
He clarified that the creation and development of alternative financial systems outside the United States of America and Europe will make all Western sanctions much less effective.
